School Clerk UK is an independent clerking service for schools in North Tyneside.

Every school in the country must have a governing body and the individual (or company) responsible for ensuring that the governing body operates effectively and meets its regulatory obligations is the Clerk.

It’s a role synonymous with Secretary for limited companies – in fact for those schools that are companies limited by guarantee, the Clerk is often the Company Secretary.

The National Governance Association describes the purpose of the clerk’s role as:

  • Providing advice to the governing body on governance, constitutional and procedural matters.
  • Providing effective administrative support to the governing body and its committees.
  • Ensuring the governing body is properly constituted.
  • Managing information effectively in accordance with legal requirements.

In addition, the clerk is the ‘constitutional conscience’ of the governing body and should be accountable to the governing body.

Jacqui Sugden trades as School Clerk UK.
